What are the differences between PVC and EVA materials?

Release time:2024-11-09

With the gradual development of the times, people's lives have also changed a lot, and the use of various new materials is becoming increasingly widespread. For example, PVC and EVA materials are widely used in life today, but most people easily confuse them. Next, let's understand the differences between PVC and EVA materials.

1. Different Appearance and Texture:
In mainland China, PVC can be divided into two types: low-toxicity and environmentally friendly, and non-toxic and environmentally friendly. EVA materials are all environmentally friendly materials. The surface of EVA is soft; its tensile toughness is stronger than PVC, and it feels sticky (but the surface is not sticky); it is white and transparent, with high transparency. The appearance and feel are very similar to PVC film, so care should be taken to distinguish them.

2. Different Processes:
PVC is a thermoplastic resin formed by the polymerization of vinyl chloride under the action of an initiator. It is a homopolymer of vinyl chloride. Vinyl chloride homopolymers and vinyl chloride copolymers are collectively referred to as vinyl chloride resins. PVC was once the world's largest-volume general-purpose plastic, with very wide applications. EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer) has the molecular formula C6H10O2 and a molecular weight of 114.1424. This substance is used as various films, foamed products, hot-melt adhesives, and polymer modifiers.

3. Different Hardness:
The natural color of PVC is a slightly yellow translucent state, with a gloss. Its transparency is better than polyethylene and polybutylene, but inferior to polystyrene. Depending on the amount of additives used, it is divided into soft and hard polyvinyl chloride. Soft products are soft and tough, with a sticky feel. The hardness of hard products is higher than low-density polyethylene but lower than polypropylene. Whitening will occur at the bending points. EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer) is softer than PVC.

4. Different Prices:
PVC material: The price of one ton is between 6000 and 7000 yuan. The price of EVA material varies with thickness and is approximately 2000 yuan/cubic meter.

5. Different Characteristics:
PVC has good electrical insulation properties and can be used as a low-frequency insulating material. It also has good chemical stability. Due to the poor thermal stability of polyvinyl chloride, long-term heating will cause decomposition and release HCl gas, causing polyvinyl chloride to discolor. Therefore, its application range is relatively narrow, and the general use temperature is between -15 and 55 degrees Celsius. EVA is a solid at room temperature. When heated and melted to a certain extent, it becomes a liquid with a certain viscosity.
